Application of botulinum toxin
The application of botulinum toxin (popularly known as “Botox”) is a cosmetic and therapeutic procedure that uses the neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum to temporarily block nerve signals to the muscles, preventing them from contracting. It is widely used to smooth facial wrinkles and treat hyperhidrosis, bruxism, and spasticity.
Main Applications and Uses (Botulinum Toxin Application):
Cosmetic: Reduction of dynamic wrinkles (crow's feet, forehead lines, glabella), eyebrow lift, and jaw contouring.
Therapeutic (Medical): Treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), bruxism, chronic migraine, blepharospasm (twitching eyelids), strabismus, and post-stroke spasticity.
How it works: The toxin paralyzes the muscle by interrupting the action between the motor nerve and the muscle. The effect is temporary, usually lasting 3 to 6 months.
Important points:
Procedure: Performed via direct injection into the muscle or intradermally, usually in a doctor's office.
Results: Not immediate, appearing a few days after application, with maximum effect around two weeks.
Safety: When applied by qualified professionals, it is considered safe.
