Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers are thin, custom-made layers of high-strength ceramic material that are bonded to the front of the teeth. This cosmetic dental treatment aims to correct the color, shape, size, and alignment of teeth, providing a harmonious smile with a natural appearance.

What is the treatment?

The treatment is a rehabilitative and aesthetic procedure, considered "high-end" due to its durability and resistance to stains.

Material: Ceramic or porcelain (synonymous in dentistry).

Durability: High mechanical resistance, with an average lifespan of 10 to 15 years or more, if well cared for.

Indications: Stained teeth, teeth with unsatisfactory restorations, small fractures, misaligned teeth (crooked teeth), or teeth with spacing (diastemas).

Irreversibility: As it requires, in most cases, a small amount of enamel wear (approximately 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm), the procedure is considered permanent.

Main Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages:

High Aesthetics: Natural translucency, perfectly mimicking tooth enamel.

Stain Resistance: Porcelain does not change color over time, unlike resin.

Long Duration: Longer lifespan compared to resin veneers.

How the Procedure Works (Step by Step)

Evaluation and Planning: The dentist evaluates the smile, takes photos, and makes impressions of the mouth (or performs a 3D scan).

Mock-up (Preview): A simulation of the final result ("mock-up") is created for the patient to approve before starting the preparation.

Preparation: Minimal tooth preparation (if necessary) and new impression/scan.

Temporary Veneers: Placement of temporary veneers while the laboratory manufactures the porcelain veneers.

Final Cementation: The definitive veneers are bonded (cemented) with special resins and hardened with halogen light.

Maintenance

Although they don't stain, porcelain veneers require good oral hygiene (flossing and brushing) to protect the underlying natural tooth from cavities and prevent gingivitis. It is recommended to avoid using the teeth to bite extremely hard foods.
